An MS ball valve is a quarter-turn shut-off valve manufactured from mild steel (carbon steel) and used to control the flow of liquids, gases, or steam in industrial piping systems. It operates using a hollow, perforated ball that rotates 90 to open or close the flow passage.

What is Mild Steel (MS)?

Mild steel is a low-carbon steel known for:

• Good strength and durability

• Weldability and machinability

• Cost-effectiveness

• Suitability for moderate pressure and temperature applications

Because of these properties, MS ball valves are widely used in general industrial services.

Working Principle

The valve contains a spherical ball with a central bore:

• When the bore aligns with the pipeline Flow is ON

• When rotated 90 Flow is OFF

The operation can be:

• Lever operated (small sizes)

• Gear operated (large sizes)

• Actuated (pneumatic/electric)

Main Components

• MS Body Cast or forged mild steel construction

• Ball (SS or Chrome-plated steel) Rotating closure element

• Stem Connects ball to handle or gearbox

• Seats (PTFE/RTFE/Metal) Provide tight sealing
